Night convoy to Rottnest
A night convoy to Rottnest is conducted on a regular basis.
Vessels leave Fremantle at 6.30pm.
Along the way navigational lights and hazards are addressed out as well as flare demonstrations.
Then enjoy a BBQ at Little Thomsons before heading back to Fremantle.
Fremantle’s rescue vessel will accompany the fleet both ways and will be explaining hazards and lights both to and from Rottnest.

This is a great way to learn about night navigation and how to navigate safely to and from Rottnest at night.
The Rottnest Island Authority has kindly waived the landing fees for all vessels taking part in this exercise.

MVSRG Rottnest Safety Convoys

Fremantle Sea Rescue in conjunction with Cockburn and Whitfords Sea Rescue Group conduct convoys on a regular basis.

Who better to inform boaters of the safe way to navigate to and around the island.

There is over 100 years experience between the three groups and Fremantle has had a rescue vessel permanently moored at the island for over 10 years.

The day convoy will tour several of the Bays and focus on the whole family including the involvement of children in the use of radios, steering a rescue boat and learning about the safety equipment on board.
Participants can opt to return on the same day or early the next morning both in convoy with our rescue vessels.

We have many new and exciting ideas for a varied format.
There will be a barbeque at the end to revise the events of the day and for participants to gather information about boating and moorings around Rottnest.

BIA Winter convoys
For winter
The BIA Winter Boating Rallies are not just loads of fun, and a great excuse to get your boat on the water, but will help you to improve your navigation skills, gain confidence when using communication equipment and demonstrate basic boating and safety procedures such as man-overboard, setting off a flare and landing/retrieving. All in the safety of the Swan River!
